BCC Committee
The Belfast Climbing Club Committee…
Their role is to manage club affairs, promote and encourage climbing as well as its various disciplines, for the benefit of club members and the wider climbing community.
President - Mike
Mike came to climbing later than most. A lifelong fear of height had stopped him venturing up anything higher than a stepladder. Inspired by a trip with his children to Boulderworld, Mike finally decided to embrace the fear. He has never looked back, though often looks down and marvels at how far he has come; 'I still can't believe it's me up there, on the sharp end of that rope. I love that climbing is always challenging me, and rewards me by exceeding what I previously thought impossible. The people in club have been a really important part of this journey'.
treasurer & MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY (SENIOR) - OWEN
Hi folks, I started climbing with the QUBMC in 2007 and haven’t stopped since. I enjoy all types of climbing and have been lucky enough to climb in some amazing places (Scotland, Spain, the Alps and Kyrgyzstan). Opportunities to get the ice axes out have been few and far between lately but I can often be found trad climbing in the Mournes or at Fairhead. Feel free to ask if you have questions about membership.
Secretary - EVA Grew
Clothing SECRETARY - Peter Reid
Climbing for 24 years, makes me sound old ;-)
Lots of experience of climbing and outdoor adventures.. bouldering, sport, trad, ice, deep water soloing, mountaineering. Being in the mountains makes me happy. Having a family now does limit my chances to get out as much, so you will mostly see me down the wall.
My unofficial role might just be Clothing Secretary.
Cottage Secretary - peter adamson
Hi everyone, I’m Peter and this year I’ve taken on the role of the cottage secretary. I’ve been a member of the club for 3 years now, and am always looking forward to the next trip away to try and explore and climb in some of the amazing locations around Ireland, the UK and further afield as well. I can be found in Boulderworld most weeks, the Ozone on occasions, and trad climbing whenever the weather allows it! I have only been trad climbing for a few years, but I love being out in the mountains and am keen to tick off a few more leads at Fair Head this year. I’m the person to ask about any cottage related inquiries, for more information check out the “Henry’s Cottage” tab at the top.
MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY - Steve grew
MEETS SECRETARY (SENIOR) - VICKY WARD
I’ve been climbing on and off for a decade now and having taken a two year sabbatical from the committee I’m back and ready to go vertically up rock! My preference is trad and lead climbing, in particular I love Fairhead and Kerry.
My job on the committee is to organise all the official club trips to do CLIMBING. Whether it be a day trip to an indoor wall or a weekend excursion to Donegal - I’m the person to ask. If you have any ideas/recommendations/requests for crags or accommodation feel free to talk to me or anyone else in the committee.
MEETS SECRETARY - John Lyster
SOCIAL SECRETARY (SENIOR) - Mags oleszek
Mags was born in Poland. Her first love -horses, have taken her to France for couple of years. Then she discovered how Ireland is the mecca of horses .After moving to Northern Ireland, working at racing yard she now settled just outside Templepatrick.
While coming down Slemish one day, she discovered her fear of heights, which instantly led to her overly stubborn side asserting itself. So she set about to conquering her fear which has led to multiple mountain explorations from the Mournes to Kerry to polish Tatras and has ultimately led her to the Belfast Climbing Club where she hopes to expand her climbing skills, knowledge and to enjoy the craic now, as the Social Secretary.
SOCIAL SECRETARY - TANIA LOGAN
WEBMASTER - JAMIE Roberts
I started my climbing journey as an undergraduate at the University of Bristol as part of UBMC and managed to have many climbing adventures with them of the Trad, Sport, Ice, and Alpine variety. However, living in the UK meant it only natural that Trad climbing took my interest the most and, while enjoying many crags of the UK, I had a lot of fun at the awkward, badly protected, quarried limestone crags of the Avon Gorge; possibly the greatest City crag in the world.
Now I can be frequently spotted in the Mournes or Fair Head (maybe more frequently at Fair head but that has nothing to do with the shorter walk in, mostly), possibly one of the greatest crags in the world.
